Substantial gainful activity is the Social Security Adminsitrations terminology of what is “work.”  Social Security defines substantial gainful activity, in 2013, as anyone earning more then $1,040.00 per month.  If an individual is performing some part time work earning less then this amount per month Social Security may still grant Social Security Disability benefits.
